Williaam Cox Ireland Ltd. – Company History
Williaam Cox Ireland Ltd. was formed in February 1966 as a Distributor for “COXDOMES” in a joint venture between Williaam J. Cox (Sales) Ltd. (Tring, UK) and John Sisk & Son (Dublin) Ltd.
The company started the manufacture of COXDOME Rooflights in Ireland in 1968 and sales were booming.
Expansion of the company led to a relocation to Robinhood Industrial Estate, Dublin in 1970.
When Yule Catto PLC took over Williaam J. Cox (Sales) Ltd. (Tring, UK) in 1973, the company also acquired the 50% share that Williaam J. Cox (Sales) Ltd. owned in Williaam Cox Ireland Ltd.
This new 50% ownership by Yule Catto provided Williaam Cox Ireland Ltd. with the opportunity to diversify into the area of Precision Thermoforming in 1974.
The following 25 years meant an enormous boost for the company with continuous growth and new developments: entering into the curtain walling business in 1980, the development of our plastic distribution business in 1988, acquiring the Schüco franchise & achieving ISO Certification in 1993.
Our company had moved up the ladder, turning over €15M+ by the year 2000.
In the same year (2000) CRH acquired the 50% share in our company and the Building Products side of the UK operation, all formerly owned by Yule Catto PLC. This take-over in turn meant another diversification into a new business area: Smoke and Heat Ventilation, currently turning over €3,5M+ (2006).
In 2001 Williaam Cox Ireland Ltd. started a new venture in Northern Ireland under the name Allplaas Ltd. This subsidiary acts as a distributor for all our plastics, COXDOME rooflights and smoke vents.
In April 2005 our company moved to a 7000m², state of the art manufacturing facility in Cloverhill Industrial Estate, Clondalkin.
The year 2006 marked the introduction of a dedicated production line for unitised curtain walling in our Cloverhill premises.
We decided to exit our business in the Precision Thermoforming and machining of plastics in april 2008, in order to concentrate our focus on our well established Distribution Division and our Building Products business: Curtain Walling, Roof-lights, Smoke Ventilation & Cladding.
Today Williaam Cox Ireland Ltd. turns over €31M+. With over four decades of experience we have earned a reputation as a leading partner to specifiers and contractors in our various disciplines: Architectural Glazing, COXDOME Daylight Products, Smoke & Heat Ventilation and Distribution. |
